| Unions supports workers at Dr. Giraldi Home The Transport and General Workers Union has reacted to allegations made by the GGR this week against the Dr Giraldi Home. In a statement the T&G said "Present Support Workers feel saddened, disheartened and deeply offended, not only by the outrageous slander, but the shadow that has been cast on their professionalism and commitment. Without malice the Support Workers would like to increase the public’s awareness that they support Service Users and Residents, not patients. "At Dr. Giraldi they have received nothing but praise and compliments from the parents, families and Management not only through correspondence, but also in person, and they are extremely grateful for the amount of support they have received not only through phone calls, but the visits received, after reading the articles published yesterday. "At Monday’s protest there were only 15 people (as stated in the press), Support Workers would like to know if these protesters were in fact families of their Service Users and Residents, if they were, the Support Workers would like them to come forward and state their concerns. Paradoxically, Respite is constantly being requested and there is a waiting list for residential care. "Such is the calibre of the Support Workers that other services often call on their expertise and help, without the benefit of the higher rate of pay. "Present Support Workers at Dr Giraldi welcome an inquiry, as they firmly believe in human rights, their code is clear and they adhere to the Five principles of O’Brien, Community Participation, Community Presence, Respect, Choice and Competence, and they will continue to provide and improve their service." http://www.gibfocus.gi/details_todaysnews.php?id=2833 | |
