TGWU yesterday issued a statement on behalf of staff members at the Social Services Agency in connection with the serious allegations that emerged during the industrial tribunal into the sacking of former manageress Johanna Hernandez. Speaking to the Chronicle yesterday, informed sources said staff would welcome an official public inquiry into the allegations that have been made, and also the setting up of an independent board to monitor the work that they do.
Meanwhile public confidence in the service has not been affected by the allegations that have been made, added the source, and this has been shown by the fact that none of the parents have taken a decision to stop taking their sons and daughters to the home.
A TGWU statement further stated: “The Union members employed by the Social Services Agency would like to call on any person and employee with information in respect of malpractice or wrong doings to refer the matter to the RGP.
“We would also like to inform that some staff members will seek legal advice in respect to any allegations that may appear in any media, brought forward by whoever, without it being referred and investigated by the RGP.
“Our members would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank the support shown to them, by service users, families, colleagues and friends, directly related in our line of work, for their continuous support in these difficult times.”
