The Gibraltar Local Disability Movement says that the allegation of sexual abuse within the Dr Giraldi Home in the case of Industrial Tribunal, of Joanna Hernandez and Social Services Agency 'is provoking strong disagreement and disapproval within our community.'
The GLDM says that the allegation of sexual abuse within the Dr Giraldi Home that has been made for more than two years, has not improved the situation or condition of many who are concerned that their love ones may have been subjected to the abuses.
VOICES
They add: And now that government has put the lid on the Industrial Tribunal it seems that the witness statements on the allegation of sexual abuse within the Dr Giraldi Home will not be told, and this, the Disability Movement adds, is raising many voices within the disabled community,
The Gibraltar Local Disability Movement goes on to say that government issues regarding any allegation of sexual abuse within the Dr Giraldi Home, if being made, should be reported to the Royal Gibraltar Police, this may be true but we ask, why hasn’t the government done the same?
The G.L.D.M. notes that under the social services agency act, 2002, under duties of the agency article (f) it must ensure that all complaints made against the Agency or any employee or contractor of the Agency are properly investigated without delay.
And adds why has this not been done, and if it has, what were the findings?
INQUIRY
The Disability Movement ends by saying that just as it has been saying on many times, as just as other groups, that a full independent public inquiry into the allegations towards the Dr Giraldi Home should be undertaken.
Gordon Nelson, spokesman of the movement, says 'Government may disagree in investigating the allegations but when allegations of drug and sexual abuse are being made, all of us in Gibraltar must react to this by showing the feelings or thoughts we have, we should have a medium in which the public may debate this issue or express opinions, one of the options could be as in a GBC view point.'
