If by what we have been presented with, was true and we believed it is. It will be the darkest day in the history of Gibraltar. For what could be conceived as a crime against humanity.

The various reported accounts of events or series of events been told to The Gibraltar Local Disability Movement by implicated persons and parents and Social Affairs staff range from residents being taught to touch each other, a staff member under the influence of drugs/alcohol assaulting a Manager in a Flat, staff locking up residents and going out at nights partying to Casemates, etc... Involving physical, psychological, emotional, negligent, criminal, sexual and medical abuse.
The violent and cruel accounts reported to us by those who have been affected true or not warrant a must for a full independent public inquiry into the allegations of abuse and abusive treatment towards the residents at the Dr Giraldi Home. It is an urgent need that investigation into allegations is carried out for ensuring the protection of the most vulnerable members of our society. Protecting and ensuring the well being for all who lives at Dr Giraldi Home is our main objective. The Gibraltar Local Disability Movement is apolitical and works forwards, in changing attitudes against disabled people.
The implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) comes into question and the set up of Disability Rights Commission (DRC).
The (DDA) and (DRC) creation is a must, as it will deliver the protection and services that disabled people need, It should no longer be acceptable, if it ever was, to wait until a disabled person complains before taking action. As in the case of Dr Giraldi Home.
